Overwatch 2 is expected to be a huge upgrade over the first game, but since we’ve yet to know more about the sequel, we don’t exactly know what those upgrades are. When it comes to the game’s wonderful maps, Blizzard already has an elaborate plan.
Blizzard is hard-pressed on the development of Overwatch 2. We’ll most likely hear more about the game this year, but for now, we’re getting bits of information about the title only. The recent bit of information talks about the game’s maps and how vastly different they are in the sequel.
More complex maps
According to the developers, the map sizes in the sequel will be much larger than they are in the first game. The developers go as far as saying that the maps can be compared to the once found in Left 4 Dead, but it’s hard to understand what they mean by this.
In Left 4 Dead, maps are vast because missions are far and large as well. It’s likely that Blizzard is talking about the size of maps in the upcoming sequel’s story mode. However, it seems like they’ll also be incorporating the same principle in the game’s PvP modes.
Giving the game that kind of map even in its PvP aspect will make matches much more dynamic. One of the main issues with the first game currently is that there are only a few ways to win a match. If Overwatch 2 incorporates more complex maps, players might be more inclined to find new ways to play.
Apart from making maps more complex, the maps are also going to get more visual upgrades. Since Blizzard has more to work with now, they are able to incorporate new visual upgrades as well.
The maps will have better lighting and more interactive elements. This doesn’t add much in terms of gameplay, but Blizzard notes that it enhances the overall experience of the players.
Most of the interactions players have with the maps in Overwatch are plain. They can only make things fly off when hitting them. We’re excited to see what changes will arrive in the sequel.
Overwatch 2 is being developed for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will likely arrive on the next-gen platforms as well. For now, we’ve yet to know when the game launches, but many fans are expecting that an announcement is imminent.
