‘Paper Mario: The Origami King’ revealed for the Switch

A lot of amazing games have come out of the Super Mario franchise, but none have been as popular as Paper Mario. That’s why fans became ecstatic when Paper Mario: The Origami King was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Long before the release of the trailer, there have already been rumors of a new Paper Mario game in the works. Now that Paper Mario: The Origami King has been unveiled, fans have to wait a bit more before they can get their hands on a new entry in the series.

The last entry in the series was Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash, which launched on the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U, respectively. The series seemed like it will skip the Switch, but it’s now it’s set for the console when the new game launches on July 17.

What’s new?

Every entry in the Paper Mario franchise comes with a unique feature that sets it apart from the previous titles. While the previous entry focused on stickers, this new game will lean towards the gentle art of paper folding.

As per the official description of the game, the new features are as follows: “use the 1,000-Fold Arms ability to extend your arms to interact with the environment and solve puzzles. In battle, line up scattered enemies and plan your attack to maximize damage with the new, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit.”

Paper Mario: The Origami King also teases that players will be able to partner up with unlikely allies such as Bowser and the Toads.

New trailer unveiled

The game was announced along with a trailer that showcased how the game looks and feels. In terms of visuals, the title will stay true to the art style of Paper Mario, but with the power of the Switch, the next game looks much more refined and detailed.

The trailer also showcased the unique combat system coming to the game. Previous Paper Mario games had a pretty straightforward battle system, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with The Origami King. The game does take cues from strategic turn-based RPGs, but the new twist will certainly set it apart from other games.

Fans should expect more news about Paper Mario: The Origami King within the coming months. The game reveal was certainly unexpected, and fans are sure to be longing for more details soon.
