After a reported bug that prevents players from progressing through Paper Mario: The Origami King’s main story campaign, Nintendo released a statement suggesting that a fix is on the way.
In a word presented to Polygon, a Nintendo representative sent out a pronouncement.
Nintendo Knows
“We are aware of reports about issues affecting some players of Paper Mario: The Origami King. We are working to resolve these issues and plan to address them in a software update. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
The announcement did not explicitly suggest when the update is coming. However, players may rest on the idea that it’s arriving to fix the game. This is considering the grave nature of the glitch that renders the game unbeatable due to the faulty algorithm.
Video Proof
Giving proof to the game-breaking bug, a YouTuber named Nintendo Unity uploaded a video showcasing the game’s broken part. In the video, it shows how a certain VIP card vanishes into thin air upon accessing a certain room that requires it per entry.
For a full context of the bug, it involves a late-chapter part of the game where the player ventures towards the last streamer. Part of the journey has the player getting four unique stamps from the four previous streamers to claim a VIP card. The Spring of Rainbows VIP card, specifically.
With the Spring of Rainbows VIP card in the inventory, players can then enter the fifth hot spring. But, once do, will make the said critical item go missing as if though exhaustive for single use. The bug here, basically, being that the item is not and, therefore, should not be a single-use item.
Real Game-breaker
Making the item disappear into nothing would not have been an issue if not for the fact that the stamps for it respawn. However, the four stamps themselves only ever appear once. Meaning, for players who exited the Spring of Rainbows without finishing the objective there is eternally doomed to not having entry again.
If that issue is not bad enough, the game also automatically saves as soon as the player leaves the room. Subsequently, sealing what would otherwise be an “optional” bug, if players can restore from a previous save point.
For an issue that takes place late into the game, this bug is a major headache indeed. Especially so to those who are keen on seeing how the game unfolds towards its completion.
