The Golden Joystick Awards 2021 have now concluded and PC gaming, together with Final Fantasy 14 and Resident Evil Village are among the big winners for this year.
The annual gaming conference that is the Golden Joystick Awards 2021 created a buzz this week. It gave away some of its longstanding awards – mostly decided by the gaming public itself. PC gamers won big as the PC is hailed as the “Best Gaming Hardware of All Time”.
Game awards ties with 50th anniversary of Computer Space
So far, this year’s spectacle tied closely into the 50th anniversary of Computer Space. The aforementioned video game is among the titles that started it all, released as far back as 1971. Furthermore, it was the first-ever commercial video game and helped popularized gaming as entertainment.
The PC as hardware also won “Best Gaming Hardware of All Time”, with FF14 winning two vital awards. Resident Evil Village was also among the big winners this year, getting the Playstation GOTY and Ultimate GOTY.

- Breakthrough Award – Housemarque
- Best Game Community – Final Fantasy 14
- Still Playing Award – Final Fantasy 14
- PC Game of the Year – Hitman 3
- Nintendo Game of the Year – Metroid Dread
- Xbox Game of the Year – Psychonauts 2
- PlayStation Game of the Year – Resident Evil Village
- Most Wanted Game – Elden Ring
- Critics Choice Award – Deathloop
- Ultimate Game of the Year – Resident Evil Village
- The Ultimate Hardware of All Time – PC
- Ultimate Game of All Time – Dark Souls
Gabe Newell accepts award on behalf of entire PC gaming industry
The Golden Joystick Awards 2021 is among the most prestigious awards in the gaming space. As most the voting comes from the community itself, the winners are among the most beloved as well. Hence, it’s no surprise that the biggest game award, “Ultimate Game of All Time”, went to one of the best franchises ever.

Valve CEO Gabe Newell also accepted the award for PC gaming on behalf of all PC gamers. In addition, Newell built the gaming storefront Steam back in 2006, creating the most ubiquitous PC gaming storefront in the world.
“Gamers and developers have benefited enormously from the relentless innovation in PC gaming hardware,” said Newell. “On behalf of all of those who’ve made the PC the greatest gaming hardware of all time, I am honored to accept this award.”
The PC receiver 17% of all votes at The Golden Joystick Awards 2021. Furthermore, Dark Souls bagged its win with 12% of all votes, with the 1993 DOOM in close second at 11%.
