Perez Hilton realized after mocking celebrities for years that he didn’t need to be cruel to make an audience.
Perez Hilton released his memoir TMI: My Life In Scandal, where he shared his realizations in his profession. The man behind the notorious blogs and gossip pages that mock celebrities admitted that he was afraid to change, but this time, he wanted to be kinder and gentler.
Perez Hilton speaks about regrets
Perez Hilton is aware that many celebrities hate him. In fact, according to him, Roseann Barr wanted to kidnap him and taker him to her farm in Hawaii and shoot her for allegedly trespassing her property.
Hilton, born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., admitted that he didn’t care about his mean reputation before. He said it was partly because he was young, and he believed he would be successful forever. But in reality, he was already drowning in negativity, and he was only forced to continue it because he felt he would lose his audience if he changed.
“I was stuck playing a part, too afraid to change, too afraid of losing my readers if I suddenly stopped being so mean,” he wrote per Page Six.
“One of the many things I regret is that I hurt so many people by giving them nasty nicknames, and above all that I was unkind to the children of celebrities,” he added.
“I now see that I never needed to be so mean or cruel. I would’ve been fine anyway, just by being who I was.”

Hilton recalled mean things he did
Hilton Perez admitted that he was harsh to Ariana Grande after the singer and her mom turned down his offer about managing or consulting the talent’s career. He admitted the incident hurt him, so he became super petty toward Grande on his website and social media. He admitted that he regretted it.
Perez also recounted his friendship and falling-out with Lady Gaga. He said they used to be very close. In fact, both of them thought Christina Aguilera copied the Poker Face singer in her Bionic album. So he mercilessly trashed Aguilera in his column even if she had just performed at his birthday months earlier.
However, Perez later realized that Lady Gaga was using him against his rivals. Although Gaga didn’t ask him to write against her competitors, by complaining at him, he felt compelled to react by trashing those against Gaga.
However, Perez and Gaga’s friendship didn’t last long. According to him, she changed when she became popular.
