‘Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis’ coming this June

Sega announced that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is coming this summer. According to the Japanese company, the MMORPG remake will come this June.

In a tweet, Sega noted that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis now has a definitive date. The originally Japan-exclusive title will also hit the rest of the world, even if it has Japan-only packs.

Sega shows off livestream for New Genesis

PSO2: New Genesis was a surprise announcement last year. When the original Phantasy Star Online 2 came to the West, Sega announced a “sequel.” The game initially thought of as an expansion became a standalone title.

New Genesis was a graphical remake for the game, considering the original PSO2 came out in 2012. It also added a different story and setting to the original title and allowed for limited migration.

Since its minor announcement, no other news came out of Sega. PSO2 also integrated well after opening itself to Western players. Now, Sega is ready to show more, announcing a release date for the summer.

“We’re excited to confirm that PSO2 NEW GENESIS will be launching this June,” said the tweet. “This and so much more was confirmed as part of our ‘Prologue 3’ livestream early this morning. Missed it? The stream is available to view now on our YouTube channel!”

Japan will get exclusive “Starter Package”

The wait for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis won’t be long. While Sega has not announced an exact release date, June is a little more than a month away. At most, fans of the game would only need to wait around two months more.

For those who want a taste of the game, Sega will run a closed beta from May 14 to 17. The beta will run for PC will work on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opened last April 22 and is still open via the Xbox Insider Hub.

Players will also get a Starter Package in Japan, which includes several special items. The game will also include a mini-soundtrack and a box that contains art from the team.

The Starter Package, being Japan-exclusive, will go on sale in August for several platforms. These will include the Playstation 4, PC, and the Switch.

The New Genesis “update” revamps the battle system for the entire game. They are also adding various systems that will help increase immersion, including a day and night cycle.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be free to play. The live stream is available on Youtube for those who want to know what they’re getting into.
