Killer Instinct is not yet dead, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer noting that they are looking to get the series back for this console generation.
According to Phil Spencer, he’s looking to continue with the Killer Instinct series. He’s looking for the right team and opportunity to revive the game. The game’s reboot, which came out in 2013, should look well with this generation’s platforms.
Xbox boss praises reception for Killer Instinct
In an podcast interview, Spencer discussed the internal views about the franchise as a whole. Killer Instinct is one of the most iconic titles out there, serving after a long hiatus. The game first came out in 1994 and eventually got a reboot in 2013.
During its reboot, players enjoyed the game. It seems that it’s a darling within the walls of Xbox offices too.
“There are so many good games in our catalogue that we’d love to visit,” said Spencer during the interview. “The response when we redid KI at the launch of Xbox One was fantastic.
“I will just say, (Xbox Game Studios head) Matt (Booty) and I have discussed many times KI and where we would like to go with it and it’s not out of our minds that—it might be out of our minds—but it’s in our hearts and in our minds that we want to continue to do something with KI.
“It’s about finding the right team and the right opportunity but it is not due to any kind of lack of desire on our part that we’re not doing more with KI because we love the franchise and the community response.”
KI offers combination of nostalgia and competition
Killer Instinct is one of the many franchises that are currently under the Xbox brand. Phil Spencer and the rest of the Xbox team understand the nostalgia factor that these titles bring. For fighting game fans, KI offers the same nostalgia, if not more.
“It’s been a few years now, but I was fortunate enough to work with the team who rebooted Killer Instinct,” said Matt Booty to a Game Informer interview. “That really came about because there was an energy and a passion for it.”
What makes KI special is the varied gameplay for the game. It’s a good mix of many well-established fighting games out there, including Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Even then, it’s super fun and enjoyable to everyone looking for something to play.
Phil Spencer also released some information on Fable 4 for PC within the same interview. He noted that people should not worry about the game, considering the pedigree of the devs working on it.
