Disney is, reportedly, eyeing to make Pirates of the Caribbean 6 a reboot. It will take the story in a new path. So, it may likely not feature Johnny Depp’s iconic character as Captain Jack Sparrow.
However, Screen Rant noted that Disney should bring back Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow and put a closure to his story. Instead of a reboot, it may continue the legendary pirate’s tale and kill him off to end his storyline.
The death of Captain Jack Sparrow
Pirates of the Caribbean has been one of Disney’s flagship movie series. Its five films have earned over $4.5 billion in the box office. Johnny Depp also becomes the face of the franchise.
Although the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are a sure hit, the fifth installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales, sadly, flopped. It only earned $800 million, the second-lowest in the franchise. The latest film also received poor critical approval and fewer reviews since the first movie in 2013.
It might be the reason why Disney wanted to make Pirates of the Caribbean 6 a reboot. So, it might not feature Captain Jack Sparrow, which might also be because of Johnny Depp’s legal issues. Although it’s quite understandable, it still has to put a closure on the famous pirate’s story.
If Disney makes Pirates of the Caribbean 6, it can continue its main story and still think of a way to freshen things up. It has a wide array of pirate history and mythology that it can feature without doing a significant reboot, Screen Rant noted.
The franchise was built with Captain Jack Sparrow around. So, Disney might have a hard time to introduce a new main character. The new role will also remain in Captain Jack Sparrow’s shadow as he’s still alive.
The fifth installment, Salazar’s Revenge, didn’t give a full closure to the franchise. So, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 should continue its main story and set up a new future instead.

Johnny Depp’s future in the movie series
Even the movie franchise’s producer is not sure of Johnny Depp’s future in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
In an interview with Collider, Jerry Bruckheimer couldn’t give any update about the return of Amber Heard’s husband in the movie.
“The one we’re developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s role is going to be,” he told Collider. “So, we’re going to have to see.”
Fans first saw Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. He went on to reprise his role in the next four films, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales. Now, it remains to be seen what will happen next in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
