Despite rumors that claim of PlayStation 5’s limited production, PlayStation’s president and CEO, Jim Ryan, is asserting that there would be more PS5s at launch than there were PS4s back in 2013.
In hindsight, the PlayStation 4 sold 2.1 million units after three months of launch. The first one million units of which done on the first day alone. Although we did not get concrete numbers as to how many exactly, we had at least a baseline. Whether that meant a substantial amount greater than 2.1 million or not is still a matter of the future event.
PS5’s Manufacturing Dilemma
While confident in being able to cater for demand, Ryan acknowledges the uncertainty that came with COVID-19. Citing concern over the company’s ability to produce amid doubt with the supply.
“For quite some time, in the early part of COVID, that picture was far from clear.”
Aside from the issue with the production, another pressing concern comes from the topic of imposed lockdown. One that greatly concerns the consumers’ ability to go outside and the retailers to remain open for business.
“Just as the supply things was unclear, would there be any market? Would anyone be allowed to go outside? Would any shops be open? This has been a year like no other.”
In spite of all the quandary, the company found the silver lining by using the challenges to steel its resolve. Subsequently, coming to a generalization that pushing through its endeavor to being the right choice.
“But all of that just reinforced our resolve, and the path we determined at the start of the year was absolutely the right one.”
Advanced Gaming Experience
The PlayStation 5 is truly a major upgrade from the PlayStation 4, primarily for its hardware and features. With a capability that underscores greater performance of the former over the latter, the upcoming console is a massive leap for console gaming.
While the console’s cutting-edge features make for the greatest appeal, another major reason would be its backwards compatibility. Which, via a separate interview with Jim Ryan, claims that as many as 99% of the PS4’s library of games being supported.
Sony’s launching of the PlayStation Plus Collection will even see to it that subscribers will get to experience 18 of PS4’s best titles. That’s a list of free-to-play games for active subscribers, which includes some of the console’s exclusive titles.
Some will probably still stick with their PS4s knowing that previously thought of exclusive titles turns out to be cross-gen titles. But for individuals who are seeking to bring their gaming experience to the next level, the jump to the PS5 makes sense.
