PlayStation Now is reportedly losing the battle against Xbox Games Pass.
Gaming subscription services have gained the attention of many console gamers these past few years. In the industry, some of the names that continue to appeal are PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass.
While both platforms offer similar services and features, one of the two stands out the most in the eyes of the fans and gamers, as it happens, many believe that Microsoft is beating Sony in this arena.
This is likely the reason why the latter recently surprised the public with a shocking treat. Comic Book Resources reported that Sony offered a $1-deal subscription to PS users.
The $1 subscription deal for PlayStation Now
The surprise promotion reportedly “came out of nowhere” over the weekend. This is seemingly the reason why many people assume that it was Sony’s way of trying to surpass Xbox Game Pass.
The less than AU$2 subscription was, indeed, a “great deal” for PlayStation users. The announcement only emerged, though, on Friday, indicating that the sale would only last for a single weekend.
The usual rate for PS Now subscription is over AU$13 per month and less than AU$80 per year. It does, however, offer a seven-day free trial.
Why it was not enough
The same publication explained, later on, why it became a “huge missed opportunity” for PlayStation Now. As noted, the deal did not have “enough time to flourish” because it only had a few days to build up the hype. In addition to this, Sony only offered the deal to North America.
Accordingly, the public seemingly concluded that it was not the best move on Sony’s part. The limited promotion, “in terms of length and availability,” did not appear to help expand the platform’s user base.
As a result, Xbox Game Pass appears to maintain its success and popularity in the area of game subscription services. It reportedly continues to overshadow PS Now despite the record-breaking sales numbers of PlayStation 5.
Xbox Game Pass is winning the battle
Several gamers and experts in the industry believe that Xbox Game Pass has always won the service. An opinionated article from App Trigger recently discussed the reasons behind it.
As explained, the game subscription service from Microsoft has a very competitive price. Xbox users can avail the services at less than AU$20 a month.
Although it is a bit more than what Sony is offering, the features and services of the platform are more beneficial to Xbox users. Unlike PlayStation Now, games are downloadable on Xbox Game Pass. Also, the titles in the library are more valuable as it emphasizes quality over quantity.
