The transition into the next-gen is always a problem because of the lack of titles at launch. However, it seems like Sony has solved the problem with the reveal of the PlayStation Plus Collection.
Microsoft’s Game Pass for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S gives players access to various Xbox One classics. As an answer to Microsoft’s sweet deal, Sony has revealed the PlayStation Plus Collection at the recent PlayStation 5 Showcase.
What is it?
Revealed during the PlayStation 5 livestream, this is a new PlayStation Plus benefit that players should be excited about. If players have a PlayStation Plus subscription and own a PlayStation 5, they can play an assortment of amazing titles from the PlayStation 4.
Since this is a benefit of the PlayStation Plus subscription, players no longer have to pay extra. All they have to do is pay for Sony’s subscription fee, and they can download these games digitally at the launch of the PlayStation 5.
The reveal of the collection basically confirms that the PlayStation 5 will have backward compatibility. However, it seems like the list of the backward compatible games will remain limited for now. Sony did say before that they are going to expand this list as the console gets older.
Games included
The PlayStation Plus Collection includes an assortment of classics from Sony and third-party developers.
The games include God of War, Bloodborne, Monster Hunter World, Final Fantasy XV, Fallout 4, Mortal Kombat X, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Ratchet and Clank, Days Gone, Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, Battlefield 1, Infamous Second Son, Batman Arkham Knight, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Persona 5, and, Resident Evil Biohazard.
While the offer is great, fans have a few comments about the collection. For starters, many are questioning why Sony put in Persona 5 and not the expanded Persona 5 Royal. The same goes for Final Fantasy XV, which is only getting the base game added.
We have yet to see if Sony will introduce the base versions of these games instead of their expansion. Hopefully, Sony gets more generous and gives fans the expanded versions which add in hours of gameplay.
The PlayStation Plus Collection is one of the ways Sony is helping the PlayStation 5. The upcoming console doesn’t have a lot of titles at launch yet. However, there will be more available titles at launch even if they are just PlayStation 4 classics with backward compatibility.
