The PlayStation Trophies system has long been untouched by Sony, and fans have been satisfied with it so far. However, the long untouched system is going to be overhauled today, weeks before the launch of the next-gen.
The PlayStation Trophies system allowed players to show off their achievements for certain games. For a long time, it remains unchanged. However, Sony is revamping the system as per a blog post. This new development comes just in time before the release of the PlayStation 5.
Enhanced trophy levels and new level calculation
There’s a change in the trophy levels starting now. The range before the update was 1-100. Now, it has been increased to 1-999. Players will have their account trophy levels automatically changed to keep in line with the update.
“For example, if your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200’s. The exact level will depend on the number and grades of trophies you’ve acquired. There will be no changes to the Trophies already earned or Trophy information, such as unlock requirements.”
Moreover, Sony is implementing a new calculation method for the PlayStation Trophies system. The company hopes to make it more rewarding. Basically, the higher the level of the player, the better the value high-end trophies will be. For instance, Platinum trophies will be more valuable even at the higher trophy levels.
Adding in higher values for the levels could make players see more worth in accumulating trophies. The previous trophy progression system made leveling up the account quite a chore as it took a lot of effort to do.
New icons
On top of all this, Sony has enhanced the way the trophies look on the PlayStation. Changes will be implemented in the app on a certain date as well. These graphical enhancements on the icons do make the trophies stand out much better.
As per Sony, the trophies will be transitioning into the PlayStation 5 as well. Those that are playing on older consoles like the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 will begin to see these changes also implemented.
Sony’s plans with the PlayStation Trophies system could be a great change of pace for players. These changes will be available on the PlayStation 5 as well when the console launches. Sony will most likely continue to revamp the system as the years go by, and players ask for more changes.
