The Poco M2 Pro is tipped to be similar to the global version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro in terms of design.
The much-awaited Poco M2 Pro’s launching date is finally official.
The first smartphone from the Poco M series
In the Twitter page of Poco’s Indian arm, Xiaomi’s former sub-brand has revealed that the M2 Pro is now slated to unveiled on July 7. The imminent phone will serve as the first smartphone to emerge from Poco’s newest M series, joining the already established X and F lineups. The latter two now include the X2, F1, and F2 Pro.
While Poco did not reveal any pertinent details surrounding the key specs of the M2 Pro, the independent brand still managed to give us some Easter eggs down the line. The attached clip on the tweet showed the phone’s rear camera setup, which is quite reminiscent of the Redmi Note 9 Pro’s camera module’s square-like design. The phone was only launched in April 2020.
A rebadged Redmi Note 9 Pro?
Also, the video teaser included what appears to be a silhouette of the phone. A recess on the device’s right side indicated that the phone could arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint reader. Note that the Note 9 Pro also did come with the same placement of this security feature.
This leads us to believe that the Poco M2 Pro might be a rebadged version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro. For those who have been following the phone’s latest developments, this should no longer come as a shock as the handset has almost always been associated with the latter.
Possible features
If this pans out, the Poco M2 Pro could very well launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G SoC, alongside a 6.67-inch LCD screen with a FullHD+ resolution. The phone should also get listed with a massive 5,020mAh battery with 30W fast wired charging.
Talking about its support for fast charging, a separate teaser video of the phone confirmed that the handset would come with a “superfast” charging feature. The details of which are still up in the air at the moment.
Geekbench listing
Only hours after Poco India revealed the phone’s announcement date, the handset was, allegedly, spotted on Geekbench. Listed as Xiaomi POCO M2 Pro, the phone is shown to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with 6GB of RAM and Android 10 in tow.
At the time of its launch, it is tipped that the Poco M2 Pro will be sold via Flipkart in India. Poco is yet to reveal as to when the device will arrive in other markets.
