In anticipation of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s next and last upcoming DLC, The Crown Tundra, The Pokemon Company is giving away some special Pokemon that any trainer will love—Ash’s Pikachu in eight variants.
Fans of the franchise will recall a similar event rolling out back in 2018 following the launch of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If you are unlucky to have missed that event, then this refresh should ensure you get your hands on these cute Pikachus.
Different Hat, same Pikachu
Ash’s Pikachu is what the name implies—this is the Pikachu that the anime TV series’ protagonist accompanies throughout his adventure. For a series that sees Ash Ketchum switching caps, the Pikachus to be given away are differentiated by the cap they wore. Each of which holding a specific representation, often a region in the series.
There is a total of eight Ash’s Pikachu slated to be handed out as part of the event. Three of which are already redeemable as of now and the rest to follow suit at a later date.
To get these three Ash’s Pikachu, simply head to Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Mystery Gift and use these codes:
- P1KACHUGET: Original Cap Pikachu
- 1CH00SEY0U: Pokemon: I Choose You Cap Pikachu
- P1KAADVANCE: Hoenn Cap Pikachu
If you are new to the series and do not know where Mystery Gift is, it should be an option at the main menu. The option should not be particularly hard to see as it appears alongside options to start a new game, continue from existing progress, etc.
From there, choose Get Gift with Code/Password. When asked to connect online, oblige to do so in order to connect to Nintendo’s server. Then, finally, input each available code to get all accessible freebies.

The rollout for the giveaway had officially started on Sept. 29, 2020, and is scheduled to end on Nov. 30, 2020. Within this period, users can expect the subsequent rollouts of other Ash’s Pikachu versions in their own respective schedules.
Players need not have to guess, however, when those dates would be. The official Japanese website of Pokemon Sword and Shield already has the information revealed for the world to see. As such, we can all expect to see the rest of the Pikachu through the following October dates:
