Mayor Ted Wheeler addressed the recent Portland shooting through a news conference. He slams President Donald Trump for citing he “created the hate.”
On Saturday evening, an alleged clash between the Trump supporters and the BLM protesters resulted in one person’s death. Mayor Wheeler urges the public to stop the violence and calls out Trump and his attacks.
“The tragedy last night cannot be repeated, all of us must take a stand against violence. And it doesn’t matter who you are or what your politics are, we have to all stop the violence,” says Wheeler.
Portland Mayor to people seeking revenge: “stay away”
As reported, a Trump caravan came in hundreds of trucks and vehicles, and somehow found their way into the downtown core, where the Portland shooting transpired. According to Reuters, the officials of Portland, Oregon are bracing for an escalation in violence.
It turns people are airing out their plan to seek revenge after the death of a Trump supporter, Aaron Danielson, also called as Jay Bishop.
Mayor Wheeler warns:
“For those of you saying on Twitter this morning that you plan to come to Portland to seek retribution, I’m calling on you to stay away.”
Wheeler does acknowledge the public’s constitutional right to come to Portland, but he urges the public to help them de-escalate the situation. He also reached out to the locals as well to do their part in seeking peace.
Portland shooting aftermath: Wheeler blames Trump for violence
Mayor Wheeler goes on to call out President Trump and his “racist attacks on Black people.” He further describes how the nation had to live for four years, hearing Trump demean the minorities.
He then calls him out for his attacks on Democratic mayors. It is worth noting that Trump called the Democrat-run cities as the most dangerous cities in the U.S., during his RNC speech. He also tweeted the same later on.
Wheeler expressed:
“Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence?”
He further accused Trump:
“It’s you who have created the hate and the division. It’s you who have not found a way to say the names of Black people killed by police officers even as people in law enforcement have. And it’s you who claimed that White supremacists are good people. Your campaign of fear is as anti-democratic as anything you’ve done to create hate and vitriol in our beautiful country.”

Wheeler believes that Trump should be stopped, as the president allegedly fails to respect the country’s democracy. He calls on the current POTUS to do his job “as the leader of this nation,” while he does his as the mayor of Portland.
On Twitter, Trump has called Wheeler a “weak and pathetic Democrat Mayor” and a “wacky Radical Left.” The president has also retweeted a post from New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik wherein he slams Wheeler for refusing help from the federal government.
.@tedwheeler Portland is your responsibility, not President @realDonaldTrump’s! You have allowed #BLM and #Antifa militants to control your city for more than 100 days! You’ve done nothing about it! You’ve refused help from the federal government! That killing is your fault! https://t.co/ddYLNcwdbb

And because of this, they pin the death from the Portland shooting as Wheeler’s fault.
