There was a pro-Trump caravan

According to police reports, the clash ignited when a political rally was “caravanning” throughout the downtown area of Portland. CNN further noted that the traffic coincided with the “Trump 2020 Cruise Rally in Portland.”

Police were reportedly trying to keep the caravan out of the downtown area, but somehow, a few were able to slip through. Originally, the demonstrators gathered at a parking lot of Clackamas Town Center.

The news outlet describes an encounter where the Trump supporters are riding on the beds of the trucks “releasing some form of spray.”

The New York Times further describes that the pro-Trump rally had “hundreds of trucks filled with supporters and adorned with Trump flags.” At some point in the evening, the counterprotesters and the Trump supporters got into fistfights.

In addition to that, the news outlet points out that the Trump supporters were “shooting paintball guns from the beds of pickup trucks.” Meanwhile, the counterprotesters were also throwing objects at them.

According to Dunlap, he saw two people face Jay Bishop before shots were heard and he eventually fell dead. Police are reportedly treating this incident as a homicide investigation.
