Per The Sun, Jay was photographed “wearing a Patriot Prayer cap and a Blue Lives Matter patch on his pants.” For those who are not aware, “Blue Lives Matter” is a countermovement to the Black Lives Matter, per a separate report from the same outlet.
There was a pro-Trump caravan
According to police reports, the clash ignited when a political rally was “caravanning” throughout the downtown area of Portland. CNN further noted that the traffic coincided with the “Trump 2020 Cruise Rally in Portland.”

The New York Times further describes that the pro-Trump rally had “hundreds of trucks filled with supporters and adorned with Trump flags.” At some point in the evening, the counterprotesters and the Trump supporters got into fistfights.
