Chile, Mexico, and Paraguay have requested FIFA to punish Premier League teams for refusing to release players for international matches later this month.
The Premier League announced last week that players would not be allowed to represent countries on the red list during this month’s international break.
Chile, Mexico, and Paraguay have asked FIFA to sanction clubs that refuse to release their players; FIFA can sanction players if clubs refuse to remove them.
Unless English clubs strike a deal with national associations, they may not field players when the international window closes.
Premier League teams agreed not to release players for international matches
Last week, Premier League teams stated that they had reached an agreement not to release players for international matches in nations on the UK government’s red list, including Chile, Mexico, and Paraguay.
The league supported them up in their stand. La Liga has said that any of its teams who make the same choice would be supported.
The decision was made so that players would not be subjected to a 10-day quarantine upon their return to England.
On the other hand, FIFA rules stipulate that their clubs must release players to represent their nations.
If they are not, players will be barred from playing for their clubs for the duration of the international window, plus an extra five days, unless the appropriate national association agrees to an exception.
The rules have been communicated to Blackburn, Newcastle, Watford, Wolves, and the Football Association.
Chile has called up Blackburn’s Ben Brereton and Watford’s Francisco Sierralta for their next matches, while Paraguay has chosen Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron and Mexico has chosen Wolves’ Raul Jimenez.
FIFA has requested the four clubs to intervene since they have been unable to reach an agreement with the respective national associations over the release of their players.
Other countries presently on the red list include Argentina, Brazil, and Egypt.
Players from Liverpool are selected for the Brazil Team
Alisson Becker, Fabinho, and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool have been selected in the next Brazil team, with Ederson and Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City, Thiago Silva of Chelsea, Fred of Manchester United, Richarlison of Everton, and Raphinha of Everton (Leeds United).
According to the Egyptian FA, Liverpool has notified the Egyptian FA that Mohamed Salah will not be available for their matches this month.
On the other hand, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur broke ranks with the rest of the Premier League to enable their players called up by Argentina to go for their country’s matches.
Despite being called up, Salomon Rondon, Everton’s Deadline Day acquisition, will not play for Venezuela in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina, Peru, and Paraguay.
Everton striker Michael Keane will now be ready to make his debut against Burnley on September 13th.
FIFA is expecting information from different South American and African associations.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino wrote to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, requesting that players traveling to red-list nations be given quarantine exemptions, but the request was rejected.
However, it is believed that FIFA, the global football governing body, is optimistic about quarantine exemptions in the United Kingdom.
