Prince Charles and the British public are better off after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step down from their royal duties, a report says.
Prince Charles was not happy when his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle left their royal duties. However, one royal expert believed that the Megxit benefited the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles allegedly better after Megxit
In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plan to step down as working royals. The couple also announced that they wanted to become financially independent.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already attained their goals. Meanwhile, their departure is also a win-win for the heir apparent.
“I imagine Prince Charles will be relieved as they will be off his payroll now, and the British public will be relieved because they can pay back what they owe now on Frogmore Cottage, so it’s a win-win situation,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward told Daily Mail.
Sussexes finances after leaving the royal family
Prince Harry said in a previous interview that Prince Charles cut him off financially after the Megxit. The royal prince was thankful for the money he inherited from his late mom. The Duke of Sussex received about $13 million of inheritance from Princess Diana.
According to Prince Harry, they would not make it without the said money. He even said his mom seemed to know what awaited him.
However, the Sussexes received an intense backlash after Clarence House released its annual report. Apparently, Prince Charle gave the royal couple a substantial amount to support the transition.
Some netizens felt that Prince Harry did not appreciate his dad’s help. Others even accused him of lying.
Prince Harry and Markle’s rep addressed the issue saying there were no discrepancies.
In a statement to Insider, the spokesperson said it would be inaccurate to suggest there was a contradiction. Prince Harry was reportedly referring to the first quarter of the fiscal reporting period. The transitional year he meant aligned with the Clarence House’s timeline.
Twitter reacts
Several netizens reacted to the issue on Twitter. Many slammed prince Harry for claiming that his dad cut him off financially. One said he was being ungrateful and pointed out his sour behavior.
Meanwhile, another said he lied again for saying Prince Charles cut him off when the Prince of Wales gave him money to support the transition.
Meanwhile, some also sided with Prince Harry saying Prince Charles only paid the months he worked for the royal family like any boss. A different user said Prince Charle abandoned his son and took away his security.
