Prince Edward got candid about his family, how they spent the locked down, and Prince Philip’s birthday two months after he passed away.
Prince Edward shared some details about the royal family in his recent interview with Daniela Relph on BBC Breakfast. During the conversation, the Earl of Wessex revealed how they spent quarantine, how they celebrated Prince Philip’s birthday, and responded to the question about Megxit.
Prince Edward says lockdown was strange
Daniela asked Prince Edward how the lockdown was since the members of the royal family do not live far away from each other.
“I think they found it really very difficult and really quite strange,” the royal said per Express.
Sophie’s husband added that he was thankful they have phones and computers to maintain a reasonable amount of communication. He said every one of them exerted effort to check out on each other.
“We all made the effort and that’s important – that’s what everybody did,” he added.
He also shared that they never had the chance to get the whole family together. He jokingly added that there would be “chaos” if they pushed it.
How did they spend Prince Philip’s birthday?
The Duke of Edinburgh would have turned 100 years old Thursday. However, he passed away on April 9.
When asked about Prince Philip’s birthday, Daniela mentioned that it was “bittersweet” as the Queen’s husband would have celebrated a milestone birthday by turning 100.
Edward admitted that it was indeed bittersweet. If the family had a choice, they would love to have Prince Philip around. However, he also added that birthdays are not the late royal’s thing. In fact, Prince Philip was not looking forward to the centenary, but the rest of them were.
“So we go ahead and we celebrate what might have been and his life and we try to turn it into something that’s very positive – I think it’s really important to do that,” Prince Edward said.
Edward commented on the Megxit
During the conversation, the interviewer brought up the struggles within the royal household in the past month. Daniela mentioned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent interviews and asked Prince Edward’s view about it.
The Earl of Wessex gave a safe response saying he stays out of it because it is the safest place to be. He admitted that they have all been there, and they all have the same spotlight, but they deal with it differently.
Just recently, Edward and Sophie raised eyebrows when asked about the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah Winfrey. Prince Edward jokingly asked who Oprah was while Sophie asked what interview.
