Prince Harry can be run away from his royal family and should not criticize them, according to a royal expert.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties last year. The couple decided to move to the United States and settle in Los Angeles. In Prince Harry’s recent interviews, he mentioned things that seemed to put the royal family in a bad light. The royal historian warned Prince Harry to never criticized the members of the British royal family.
Prince Harry will always be a royal
Royal biographer Robert Lacey spoke about Prince Harry ahead of his return to the U.K. for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue. He warned the Duke of Sussex about criticizing the royal family and reminded him that he will always be one of them.
“If you get out, I don’t think you should then criticise your family who are still in,” Lacey said when he appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain per Express.
According to Lacey, there is a notion that one can either be in or out. But Prince Harry will never be out when it comes to being part of the firm, so he should always respect them.
“What is clear is that Harry can never be out and that if he wants a new life in California it has to be with more discretion and respect for his family members living in this country,” he added.
Lacey stressed that Prince Harry is free to create the life he wanted. However, the expert said it was not fair to criticize those who do a different job back in the U.K.
Meghan and Harry still consumed as royals
In a new piece by NBC News, historians and cultural scholars shared their thought about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex one year after the Megxit. According to them, Prince Harry and Markle have transitioned from being royals to celebrities.
It isn’t that bad because celebrities are America’s royalty, according to Andrea McDonnell, co-author of the book Celebrity: A History of Fame. However, royals have an edge over celebrities because they never go out of fashion.
Despite the change of status, the couple is still viewed as royalty. According to Kehinde Andrews, a professor of Black studies at Birmingham City University in England, whether the Sussexes like it or not, they still represent the monarchy.
Even if they are no longer working royals, Prince Harry is still a prince and he remains Queen’s grandson. So, they will still be consumed as part of the royals, Andrews said.
