Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing some backlash over their “non-existent” credentials as social media experts.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are leading a panel of experts on Tuesday. The couple will be talking about social media’s danger and creating a safe space for online communities.
This is going to be part of the Time 100 Talks.
What the netizens have to say
Social media users are not happy that they will be part of it, as they’re not even experts in the digital world.
Upon Time’s announcement, Twitter users were wild.
Royal Tea wrote, “The Sussexes are apparently ‘expert’ enough on this topic to lead an entire digital event – but how??”
They further wrote how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had done nothing to establish “real credibility” outside of just their speaking engagements and “vague mentions of ‘conversations’ with actual experts.”
Another Twitter user questioned their “credentials,” saying, “What field is Harry and Meghan in exactly? I’m curious about their credentials.”
Some fans are hoping they don’t use their titles or forego it entirely because it’s as if they’re deceiving the public with “the royal seal of approval,” one person commented.
Another person pointed out that the couple’s royal titles are not considered “legitimate credentials.”
They added that there will always be issues when people hire those who do not have training or experience.
Meanwhile, there are still people on the side of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
One Twitter user believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were able to gain experience on the topic.
According to the fan, they don’t just take the time to talk to experts and inform themselves of the danger of the online world, but also through their personal experiences.

Months of training
The Sussexes’ interest in social media first emerged during the summer. Experts believe that they worked behind the scenes for months to enrich their knowledge on the issue.
The couple even, reportedly, met with experts at Stanford University in February.
Prince Harry later wrote an op-ed about his and his wife’s trip focused on social media.
In his written article, the 36-year-old dad accused social media of hate and truth crisis and urged investors to use their money for good by demanding a safer place online.
Meanwhile, the former Suits star also spoke about the importance of making a more inviting and safe online space for people in her appearances at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women summits.
