A royal expert is blaming Meghan Markle for being the cause of Prince Harry and Prince William’s “big break.”
Royal author Robert Lacey shared some perspective about how things started to unravel between Prince Harry and his brother and the role that Meghan Markle played.
According to Lacey in his book Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of a Family in Turmoil, there have already been tensions between the two Dukes for some time.
Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, Lacey explained that one of the book’s goals is to go past the two Wales’ boys into their childhoods to see how they were shaped amid their parents’ broken marriage, their royal roles, and the “distortion that was placed upon them.”
The royal author wrote that the Duke of Cambridge was the “rambunctious character,” while his little brother was the “good little boy who sucked his thumb.”
He added, “Then William discovers that he’s going to be king, he becomes much more serious and quiet between the age of six or seven. Harry goes the other way.”
Prince William, reportedly, felt like he was robbed of his childhood, having the protector’s role to his red-headed little brother when their mom died.
Meghan Markle provoking the brothers
However, tensions had further escalated between Prince Harry and Prince William when Meghan Markle entered the picture.
Lacey said, “I would say that there were stresses and strains there before, and then with the advent of Meghan, that was what provoked the really big break.”
While the Duke of Sussex was caught into the importance of love, Prince William took strength from the idea of his duty and what have laid ahead of him as king.

In Tembisa, Johannesburg, today The Duke and Duchess visited to meet young entrepreneurs at the YES hub – a hive for creativity and social enterprise. Their visit was an amazing tour of the ingenuity and opportunity – seeing businesses that varied from food to essential sanitary products for local women. During their visit, they were able to sample food from ‘Chef Mish’ – a local masterchef winner – which he makes at the site as part of his catering business and cafe. They then joined YES community members to take part in training and tests that will help them gain skills and find work. On the third stop today, entrepreneur Moss showed The Duke and Duchess the organic produce he's growing in the township with aquaponics – supplying local restaurants. And finally, The Duke and Duchess met the women behind the amazing Blossom Care Solutions – who are making 80,000 sanitary pads every month for women in their community. They are 100% compostable, and provide an essential low-cost product for women and girls. The Duchess has long campaigned on this issue and wrote in Time magazine in 2017, saying: “In communities all over the globe, young girls’ potential is being squandered because we are too shy to talk about the most natural thing in the world. To that I say: we need to push the conversation, mobilize policy making surrounding menstrual health initiatives, support organizations who foster girls’ education from the ground up, and within our own homes, we need to rise above our puritanical bashfulness when it comes to talking about menstruation.” • See our previous post to see The Dukes speech #RoyalVisitSouthAfrica Photo ©️ PA images
“So, when he found Meghan, he went for that, and when William said to him, ‘Look, perhaps you should slow down a bit,’ Harry exploded.”
The author added that the dad-of-four then went to his Uncle Charles Spencer, his mom’s brother, and asked him to give Prince Harry advice to slow down his relationship with Meghan Markle.
However, Prince William’s brotherly concern didn’t go over well. Lacey explained Prince Harry rejected his older brother’s model.
The author said, “He knew what he wanted, he loved this woman, and he was going to marry her, so that was certainly the beginning of the rift.”

Prince Harry said the truth
In the Sussexes’ 2019 documentary Meghan & Harry: An African Journey, the 36-year-old prince was asked about the numerous reports that he and his brother are in a feud.
He admitted that there was, and it’s part of their role, their jobs, and being under pressure.
“You know, stuff happens.”
But it isn’t their end, because, at the end of the day, the dad-of-one thinks that they will “always be brothers.”
