Prince Harry released a statement after several called him out following his statement that Prince Charles cut him off financially after Megixt.
Prince Harry told Oprah Winfrey during their interview for a CBS special that his dad, Prince Charles, cut him off financially after they stepped down from their royal duties. The duke mentioned that they made it and survived thanks to the money his mom, Princess Diana, left. However, Clarence House just released its annual financial report saying the Prince of Wales provided them a “substial amount” of money for the transition.
Prince Harry addressed being financially cut off statement
Prince Harry released a statement to Insider to address the reports that there were inconsistencies in his statement at Oprah Winfrey’s interview and Clarence House’s financial report.
The Clarence House spokesperson said, “The Prince of Wales allocated a substantial sum to support them with this transition.”
The statement sparked discussions and debate whether Prince Harry lied to Winfrey or not about being financially cut-off after the Megxit.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson told Insider that “it’s inaccurate to suggest that there’s a contradiction.”
Prince Harry’s comments during his interview with Winfrey were in reference to the first quarter of the fiscal reporting period in the U.K. which starts in April. That was reportedly the same date that the transitional year of the Sandringham agreement began and it is aligned with the Clarence House’s timeline.
Since the financial quarter starts at the beginning of summer, Prince Harry and Prince Charles’ accounts match.
So The Prince of Wales DID NOT cut Harry & Meghan off financially as he claimed in that Oprah interview.

Despite some confusing reports, Prince Charles and Prince Harry’s timelines for the period the Sussexes’ financial support ended are the same. Twitter slammed Prince Harry
However, several Twitter users slammed Meghan Markle’s husband. Many even called him a liar for his statement.
One called the duke a “shameless liar” for his claim in his interview with Oprah Winfrey. Meanwhile, another questioned why Prince Harry had to say he was financially cut off when Prince Charles gave him a large lump sum to help him and Meghan Markle with the transition.
Royal editor Robert Jobson also tweeted and wrote, that Prince Charles did not cut the Duke and Duchess of Sussex financially as he claimed in his interview with Winfrey.
However, many also defended the Sussexes. Royal correspondent Omid Scobie gave the same explanation as the Sussexes and insisted that the financial report from the Clarence House and what Prince Harry told Oprah was the same.
Meanwhile, another attacked the Prince of Wales saying, he abandoned his son by taking away his security. Another said Prince Charles funded them while they were working just like any boss who pays their employees in a regular job.
