Prince Harry opened up directly about the royal family again and how staying in the country continuously affected his mental health.
It has already been a year since Prince Harry decided to leave his senior royal life for Meghan Markle. Only this month when he finally spoke up about his decision.
The Duke of Sussex recently sat down for a very candid interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden. During that time, Prince Harry disclosed the reason why he and Meghan Markle moved to California.
According to the royal prince, he will never walk away from his family nor let anything affect his dedication in helping people.
“It was never walking away, it was stepping back rather than stepping down,” he told the host, James Corden.
He went on to reveal that being in the U.K. was too difficult as the environment continuously destroyed his mental health.
Meanwhile, Meghan referred to the said environment as toxic. Since they felt the need to get their family out of the place, they pushed themselves to seek a peaceful place.
Despite that, the Duchess of Sussex also clarified that they never really walked away.
Prince Harry pushes back against Queen Elizabeth II’s decision
In the same interview, Prince Harry shed some light on Queen Elizabeth’s statement about him and his wife.
To recall, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Friday that the Sussexes will not be returning to royal duties. Prince Harry will also give up his remaining military titles.
This decision made their split from the royal family official and final.
Queen Elizabeth II also noted that it is not possible for the couple to continue with the royal responsibilities.
Regardless of the statement, Prince Harry told Corden that he plans to continue working with what he wants. He will, reportedly, do the job he used to when he was still working within a royal capacity.
“Whatever decisions are made on that side I will never walk away,” Prince Harry went on. “I’ll always be contributing, my life is public service so wherever I am in the world will always be the same thing.”
Prince Harry’s appointments, including his title as captain-general of the Royal Marines, would be held by Queen Elizabeth II herself. She will distribute it to the other members of the royal family afterward.
As for Meghan’s part, she lost her roles as patron of Britain’s National Theatre and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
