Prince Philip sparked concerns when he visited a hospital due to a non-COVID-19 problem. But until now, royal watchers have not seen even Queen Elizabeth II’s shadow around the area.
Last week, Prince Philip admitted himself to a medical facility after feeling unwell.
A palace source told BBC that the Duke of Edinburgh traveled by car to the King Edward VII Hospital. He has been staying at the facility for days now for observation and rest.
Aside from confirming that it was not COVID-19-related, the insider added that the duke was “in good spirits.”
“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell,” the source said. “The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
A separate source clarified that the hospital admission was not urgent. Prince Philip even drove and walked himself to the hospital.
As days go by, royal watchers begin to question whether Her Majesty would leave Windsor Castle and visit her husband.
Will Queen Elizabeth II visit her husband?
Unfortunately, Prince Philip’s wife was not the first one to check on him personally.
According to express.uk, Prince Charles was the first member of the royal family to visit the duke.
The Prince of Wales, reportedly, arrived at the hospital on Saturday from his home Highgrove. He went alone and spent around 40 minutes with Prince Philip.
As of the writing, Buckingham Palace has not confirmed whether Queen Elizabeth II will follow Prince Charles’ visit.
Currently, she still spends her time at Windsor Castle, where she and her husband spent their time during the lockdown period.
Prince Philip’s health seemingly deteriorated over the past years. He already received treatments for blocked coronary artery, bladder infection, and abdomen exploratory surgery, among others.
Her Majesty did not visit Prince Philip last time
In December 2019, Prince Philip also came to King Edward VII Hospital to receive treatment for a “pre-existing condition.” The royal palace revealed that the condition came after he hurt himself due to a bad fall and poor health.
Instead of visiting the duke, Queen Elizabeth II traveled to Sandringham to attend the Christmas Day church service, stirring criticisms from some royal watchers.
But Victoria Arbiter defended her and said that Her Majesty could not easily go out and visit the Duke of Edinburgh.
“After seeing some pretty horrid comments about the Queen being at Sandringham while Philip is in hospital I’d like to TRY to add a little perspective. Generally, royals don’t visit each other in the hospital,” she said on Twitter.
