Prince William saw nothing — or no one — more important than the monarchy.
Months leading up to Megxit, Prince William showed one sign that he would always put the monarchy first.
A royal expert recalled the time Prince William decided to remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from his royal household.
Robert Lacey told Express U.K. how the Megxit began soon after the Sussexes left the Kensington Palace. The two couples decided to part ways and split their charitable organizations.
Some reports suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan were the ones who decided to split. But the author revealed that it was a sign that showed how Prince William cherishes the monarchy more than his brother.
He shared the same sentiments in his new book, Battle of Brothers. Lacey stated that the split of the Fab Four came after Prince William heard complaints about Meghan’s treatment toward royal staff.
The issue came out again and pushed Buckingham Palace to conduct an inquiry into the allegations. The results are expected to come out next year.
The Duchess of Sussex has since denied the accusations, claiming that they are only products of the “smear campaign.”
Fab Four went on to start new foundations
After Prince Harry and Meghan left the residence, they established their own foundation, Sussex Royal. They continued their royal duties from the Frogmore cottage.
In the months after the move, Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship got worse. In January 2020, the Sussexes dropped the bombshell news about their decision to step down as senior royals.
The move, which people dubbed as Megxit, ignited a 3-day Sandringham Summit. The conversation was attended by Queen Elizabeth II herself and Prince Harry to create the best negotiations.
The royal couple eventually relocated to California where they welcomed their second child, Lili.
Most recently, Prince Harry and Meghan shocked the world when they sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the bombshell tell-all, they alleged that the royal family ignored their request for mental health support.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also slammed the Palace for not doing anything to prevent tabloid articles about Meghan from coming.
Furthermore, they claimed that Prince William and Kate felt jealous of their successful Australia tour.
Prince William and Prince Harry reunited recently for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue. They remain on bad terms despite trying to reconcile since Prince Philip’s funeral.
