Prince William took his time before he proposed to Kate Middleton. However, there was another woman before the duchess whom he immediately asked for marriage.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s dated for almost a decade before his proposal. However, years before he popped the big question to the duchess, he asked another woman to marry him.
Prince William proposed to another girl before Kate
According to royal biographer Robert Jobson in his 2006 book “William’s Princess,” the duke made his first proposal years before he met Kate Middleton. It happened when the duke was just a kid, Daily Express reported.
Prince William met his puppy love Anna McCart while holidaying with Prince Harry in Balmoral. It only took one look for the little prince to fell in love with her.
When Anna greeted him, the royal prince was dumbstruck that he almost fell off his pony. After their first encounter, they spent the rest of their holidays together.
In just a week, the future king mustered the courage to propose to McCart. He reportedly kissed her and asked her to marry him.
Anna just laughed, but the little prince was serious.
“When I come back next year I am going to marry you,” Prince William told her. “My papa told me if you kiss a girl, you have to marry her.”
Anna reportedly took the proposal seriously. In fact, he told other kids that she was going to be a princess.
Duke of Cambridge’s actual proposal
Prince William didn’t do the same when he was all grown up. In fact, it took him almost a decade to ask Kate Middleton’s hand in marriage.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have known each other since their college days. But he was adamant to marry Middleton.
Due to the long wait, Middleton earned the moniker “Waity Katie.”
Unknown to many, the duchess didn’t mind the delay because she knew he would eventually propose. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, the Duke of Cambridge promised to marry Middleton years before the actual proposal.
Prince William and Middleton endured two major splits. When they reconciled in 2007, they knew that they were meant to be forever.
However, he didn’t propose immediately because there were still things that the prince needed to accomplish before he wanted to commit himself in marriage.
