Prince William was, reportedly, warned by Queen Elizabeth II about marrying Kate Middleton.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married for nine years already. However, prior to their marriage, the monarch issued a stern warning to the Duke of Cambridge.
Prince William received a warning
Prince William and Kate Middleton have known each other since they were in college. They met at St. Andrews University.
They started as friends and their friendship bloomed into romance. However, it took almost 10 years for Prince Harry’s brother to propose to Middleton. In fact, she was dubbed “Waity Katie” due to the long wait.
According to a palace insider, the Queen had something to do with it. Her Majesty reportedly warned Prince William to be very careful when choosing a bride because she already had enough divorces during her reign.
“The Queen is the head of the Church and so from a point of principle she is opposed to royal divorces,” the source said.
“She does not want to name names, but she is adamant that there are going to be no further royal divorces during her reign.”
According to the source, divorce is against the monarch’s whole upbringing. She is all about duty and soldiering on in the face of adversity. She inherited most of her views from her mom who was scarred by King Edward and Wallis Simpson’s scandal.
“Both Princes William and Harry have been in no doubt that when they marry, it’s for keeps,” the insider added.
Divorces during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign
Queen Elizabeth II’s witnessed her sister Princess Margaret’s divorce. Also, three of her children’s first marriages ended in divorce.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana had an unhappy marriage and divorced. The same happened to Princess Anne and Prince Andrew’s respective marriages.
In February, Prince William and Prince Harry’s cousin Peter Phillips announced his divorce from wife Autumn. Both families were sad but fully supportive of the couple’s decision.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage
Prince William and Kate Middleton are still together. In fact, they celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary last month.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge share three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The future king and queen are still very visible despite the coronavirus pandemic. They often do video calls to their charity to extend their support.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have moved to the United States. They also continue their charities even if they are no longer working royals.
However, there are speculations that Markle will eventually divorce Prince Harry. Some netizens felt that the former Suits star will leave the duke broke and heartbroken.
