PS5 game sizes are enormous and will take up a large space in the solid-state drive provided with the console. But, are they so big that you will need an external drive?
PS5 is the talk of the community ever since the announcement came. The appearance of the consoles was futuristic and elegant. Though they were mocked for looking like modems, they pack serious hardware and software for your money. Their official launch took place on June 11, 2020. The console has a white and black modern approach, but additional color variants will come later.
The consoles will come for retail sale by November 12 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea, and on November 19, 2020, for the rest of the world. The base Blu-Ray disc variant costs around 499 US dollars while the digital variant costs about 399 US dollars.
Sony President Jim Ryan stated the design was intended to represent a “quantum leap over the current generation.”

PS5: The ultimate console?
PS5 has 8 cores, 16threads custom AMD CPU, with an AMD Radeon™ RDNA 2-based graphics engine. It has a GDDR6 16GB RAM with 825GB SSD. PS5 comes in two variants, the standard edition with Blu-Ray disc support and a digital edition with no disc support. PS5 weighs 4.5kg, while PS5 Digital Edition weighs at 3.9kg
The device comes with 3 USB-A ports and a USB-C port. The console has an 825GB SSD with an additional slot.
Game sizes and memory
The next-gen games for PS5 will have mammoth file sizes due to their mind-blowing graphics and game set-ups. Some of the games will have around 100GB file sizes.
The PlayStation Direct website allows you to buy games and accessories from Sony and has estimated game file sizes. We have got the game file sizes of Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls. The former game has two variants, the standard version and a bundle version. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the definitive version with 50GB, and the Ultimate Edition, which includes a copy of Spider-Man: Remastered, takes up 105GB. Demon’s Souls is a full remake of the 2009 PS3 hit game and occupies about 66GB.
If a user plans to buy a library of games for PS5, that will require a huge memory space. The console will require an SSD upgrade, which can cost much. Some games such as Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption can swallow a vast amount of memory due to their requirements, worrying for many.
The counterpart of PS5, the Xbox X, has a 1TB SSD and a price of 499 USD dollars. On the other hand, its smaller model, Xbox S, has 512GB SSD, which will not be sufficient for avid gamers. It also costs around 299 USD dollars.
