PUBG will be removing its first-person duo gameplay for its North American servers. At some point in the future, it will go away to make an “optimal” configuration.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is famous for codifying the third-person battle royale genre. Even then, the first-person battles in PUBG are also among the best in-game. The problem is that FPP duos are one of the weakest configurations of the title.
Now, the game’s North American team is planning to change the mode selection. First-person duo gameplay will go away very soon.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds team looking for optimal config
In a Twitter post, North American head Brian Corrigan is discussing plans for the future. He notes he’s looking for an optimal NA/PC configuration. From discussing it with players and partners, the optimal setup will leave an obvious config.
Thinking about this for two more weeks (meeting with nearly 50 players + partners)
Optimal NA / PC config:
* Normal – TPP Solo / TPP Duo / TPP+FPP Squad
* Ranked – FPP Only / Solo / Squad
* CustomsSquads need a place to shake the sweat off.
Change my mind.

First, the optimal NA setup for PC is standard TPP solo and duos. It will come with a combo FPP and TPP squad for unranked modes. For ranked, it seems it’s going to be more stringent and limiting.
Ranked games for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will go at first-person only solo and squads. Customs will come untouched throughout the process.
The strategy for the game is to integrate people who want to play duos into squads. By doing so, players can team up if they wish to, or keep their duo status as a handicap. The question of why the devs are doing the change is not a big reveal.
Removing FPP duos will increase queue health
Brian Corrigan and community manager Henry Guild are trying to elaborate on the idea. PUBG is, at the moment, bleeding from the slow queues. There are some areas where queues are slow, and others don’t fill up at all.
“We understand many duo players aren’t necessarily jumping into squads when they can’t play duos,” says Guild in his Twitter account. “At the same time, we need to make some tough decisions with the intention of increasing the health of other queues, namely squad ranked.”
Corrigan also mentioned that they would be testing new rulesets for ranked solos. The game’s eSports tourney, Continental Series Two, is on its way too.
Not adding ranked duos right now. Solos will be hard enough – we need to test a new ruleset.

Season 8 for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds commenced last month. The new season added lots of new content and things to do in the jungles of Sanhok.
For starters, players can now get a ton of loot from a truck found somewhere on the map. If players can take it out, it will have enough Level Three loot for an entire squad. There’s also the Sanhok Four, who are looking for the organizers of PUBG.
