QuakeCon 2020 is coming with a nice little bonus in the upcoming QuakeCon at Home. The organizers are giving away the original Quake and likely Quake 2 too.
QuakeCon 2020 has come a long way. It almost went into cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it went virtual instead. It’s also not only about Quake anymore.
Even then, the event will have a lot of Quake in store for fans. This move includes some digital giveaways for fans who will tune in. If players stay further, they will also get more from the newest Quake Champions.
Bethesda offers Quake 1 for free
Bethesda is offering the classic Quake title during QuakeCon for free. All fans need to do is log in to their Bethesda Launcher during the event. It will then net the fan a free copy straight into their account.
If the game doesn’t show up outright, all they would need to do is a quick login and logout. The original Quake is unbelievably tiny, eating a minuscule 54 MB of space. To scale, the latest Call of Duty: Warzone is a hefty 200GB affair.
Quake holds up and runs like a charm, but players would need to set it up first. Before Half-Life popularized the WASD + Mouse controls, people used arrow keys. Mouselook would also need manual activation to work.
Quake 2 and Quake Champions giveaways will be available
Fans can also get Quake 2 soon as Bethesda is pushing for a charity drive. Proceeds for the charity drive will go to a few causes.
These charities will include Direct Relief, UNICEF, and The Trevor Project. It will also benefit NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, a POC support organization. There are also the Dallas Pets Alive and Four Paws for animal charities.
Once the donations for QuakeCon 2020 top $10,000, Bethesda will release Quake 2. The sequel is a much more streamlined and more eldritch version of Quake. It’s as awesome and as action-packed as the first one as well.
Quake Champions will also offer every single hero they have for free. The modern iteration of Quake only needs players to get the game from Steam or Bethesda. Once they do, gamers would need to complete a single match.
Those who play will unlock all heroes for free forever. The entire roster is fun and colorful, with everyone from Wolfenstein’s B.J. Blazkowicz to Doom Slayer.
QuakeCon 2020 should be a great event with a lot of giveaways. The event will run this weekend, until August 9, 10 P.M. ET. Those who will participate would want to look at the official schedule for the day.
