Despite total silence from Qualcomm, rumors claim that the company is considering releasing the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset next month.
If these rumors are true about the Snapdragon 865 Plus, it means good news for the tech community. A lot of upcoming flagship smartphones are rumored to use this new chipset from Qualcomm. Among them are the Asus ROG Phone 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G foldable phone.
Since the start of the year, the Snapdragon 865 Plus has been shrouded in mystery. On top of that, Qualcomm said that it does not plan to release a new chipset this year. Another aggravating factor to the release of the chipset is the COVID-19 pandemic that grounded half of the world.
An exciting time for smartphones
The claim first circulated in several posts on Chinese social media platform Weibo. One of the posts claims that the new Snapdragon chipset is real. The post adds that the chip is slated to hit the market in the third quarter of 2020.
Snapdragon 865 Plus Flagship SOC May arrive in July.
As per reports it is expected to come with a clock speed of 3.09 GHz, which is higher than that of current flagship SOC 865, which clocks at 2.84GHz. #Snapdragon865plus #Gaming #FlagshipSoc pic.twitter.com/h4zBHCTcXj

Recently, another notable leaker known as Ice Universe took to Weibo and announced that the chipset is coming in July. The leaker claims that Qualcomm already has plans to unveil the upgraded chipset next month. If all goes to plan, the leaker said, the chipset will find its way into flagship smartphones later this year.
Despite the attention the chipset has gained over the past few months, Qualcomm remains quiet. The company has yet to confirm or deny any of these recent leaks and rumor. Normally, the company announces its release plans weeks or even months ahead of the official launch.
What to expect
Qualcomm usually releases a flagship chipset early each year; in this year’s case, that is the Snapdragon 865. Qualcomm will then release an upgraded version of that chipset in the middle of the year. This upgraded version of the chipset will bear the brand Plus and usually hits the market middle of the year.
Many expect this year will not be an exception. The Snapdragon 865 Plus is expected to power the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G. This flagship phone is Samsung’s second try at the foldable phone after the disastrous release of the Galaxy Fold.
If Qualcomm is indeed planning to release the Snapdragon 865 Plus, it bodes well for the community. The chipset is expected to power some of the best flagship smartphones to hit the market this year.
