Queen Elizabeth and some members of the British Royal Family spend their Christmas at Sandringham every year.
The pandemic crisis has continued to impact the lives of the British Royals. With Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s advancing age, they belong to the most vulnerable age group, who are at risk of contracting the virus. This is why they take extra precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the British Monarch and her Consort.
Since the emergence of the pandemic, the Queen strictly observed the lockdown measures. She relocated from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh.
The current crisis has hindered several of their plans for this year. She even downsized the celebration of her own birthday, for both official and formal dates.
While the lockdown restrictions have now started to ease in the United Kingdom, it will still likely affect the British Royal’s annual Christmas celebration in Sandringham. Sources also alleged that a mutiny among the royal staff emerged recently, according to the Daily Express.
Why royal staff members are “revolting”
Queen Elizabeth annually hosts a Christmas event in Sandringham. If she and the rest of the British Royal Family decide to push through with their annual holiday celebrations, then Sandringham would need a handful of staff members to make the event happen.
Sources told The Sun that a team of about 20 royal employees “revolted” against the plan. This mainly includes the need for them to stay in a “coronavirus bubble” to ensure the safety of the British royals. Accordingly, the staff would need to remain inside the property for a much longer period, and even celebrate the holidays far away from their families.
The group in an alleged mutiny includes laundry and maintenance workers and cleaners. Sources added that they revolted because they are not willing to be in isolation during Christmas.

Queen Elizabeth is “furious”
Following the alleged resistance, this reportedly made Queen Elizabeth “furious,” adding that the mutiny is “absolutely” unprecedented. The assertions about the monarch’s response have continued to emerge. But royal officials, and the royals themselves, have not confirmed anything yet.
Reports, later on, added that discussions are still ongoing. But, if the royals decided to cancel their annual festivities, this will reportedly “force” the Queen and her husband to celebrate Christmas in Windsor Castle.
Queen Elizabeth’s possible Christmas celebration in her Berkshire property would be the first time in 30 years. As of late, she is staying in Sandringham with Prince Philip before they relocate back to Windsor Castle.
