Queen Elizabeth II might face massive scrutiny if she would strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal title.
The former “Suits” star and the Queen’s grandson received the title of “His Royal Highness the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” shortly after their royal wedding in 2018.
Unfortunately, after being with the monarchy for almost two years, the two announced that they would be stepping down as senior Firm members.
With this, the 94-year-old monarch barred them from using their HRH titles but still considered as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with other titles such as Baron and Baroness of Kilkeel and Earl and Countess of Dumbarton.
After settling their post royal life in the U.S, the couple has been criticized for voicing their political opinions due to their “woke” speeches.
Royal watchers and experts called out the former royals to give up their titles and even urged the Queen to intervene and strip them from Sussex’s name.
The Queen faced major embarrassment due to the Sussexes
However, one royal author explained why Queen Elizabeth II couldn’t do this to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
In an interview cited by the Daily Star, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and royal author Ingrid Seward believes that there is no point in removing the couple’s title.
“I don’t see the point in Prince Harry or Meghan losing them. The Queen is a very forgiving person and deeply believes in forgiveness, and I don’t think she should or would take them.”
Moreover, Seward claims that instead of removing something from the Sussexes, she “would be happy” to welcome them again in the royal family.
“She would be totally happy to accept them back in the Royal fold, but it isn’t going to happen, we all know that now, but she would. Prince Philip has just washed his hands of it; there is very little they can do.”
The Sussexes received criticism
The former Hollywood actress and the 36-year-old prince faced massive backlash after they publicly spoke about the upcoming U.S national election.
To recall, the mother-of-one encouraged fellow Americans to make a change by exercising their right to vote, while the Duke of Sussex urged citizens to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”
Following this, British presenter and one of their vocal critics, Piers Morgan, demands Queen Elizabeth II to intervene and strip “the Sussexes of their titles.”
“They can’t remain as royals and spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way,” he tweeted.
Besides, a study from Tatler magazine showed that the majority or more than two-thirds of Britons suggests that they should have their royal titles taken away.
