Queen Elizabeth held talks with the Wales family following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit announcement.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world when they announced their desire to step down from their royal posts. Reports said that they did not inform the rest of the British Royal Family, including Queen Elizabeth, prior to making their post on Instagram.
But amid all the speculations about it, the British Monarch immediately took action and held talks at Sandringham. Publications have since dubbed it as the “Sandringham Summit.”
The conversations that took place in their Norfolk property, reportedly, centered on the Sussex couple’s plans. Sources added that they talked about the deals of their exit. However, the Queen did not reportedly want her husband to get involved with the drama. She initially wanted to hide the “shenanigans” of Megxit from Prince Philip, according to Cheat Sheet.
Queen Elizabeth sent Prince Philip far from the talks
Prince Philip and the rest of the British Royal Family announced the Consort’s retirement in 2017. He has since stayed in Sandringham to live a more private and peaceful life.
But when Queen Elizabeth decided to host the “summit” to talk about Megxit, a royal expert claimed that the monarch asked their guest to take the Duke of Edinburgh for a drive. Ingrid Seward details the accounts on her new royal biography, Prince Philip Revealed: A Man of His Century.

In her material, she said that the Queen asked the Countess Mountbatten of Burma, Penelope Knatchbull, to take the 99-year-old royal “far away” from the talks about Megxit. She “refused” to allow the Sussex couple’s “shenanigans” to reach her husband, the expert added. So, while the monarch, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry “thrashed out” the details of Megxit, Prince Philip is “out of the way.”
Megxit “irritated” the Duke of Edinburgh
Queen Elizabeth has remained very supportive of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. She publicly bid her hopes and well-wishes for the couple following the conclusion of the Sandringham Summit.
The case was different, however, for Prince Philip. Experts said that the idea of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quitting the royal life was “impossible,” according to the Daily Express.
There were also talks about him finding the idea of Megxit as “irritating.” Seward said in an interview that the Duke of Edinburgh is likely “disappointed,” noting that he gave up his naval career for Queen Elizabeth and the British Monarch. So, why couldn’t Meghan do the same for her “acting career?” the expert noted.
