‘Ratchet & Clank’ to get 60fps patch for Playstation 5

Ratchet & Clank will get a juicy 60fps update for the Playstation 5 this coming April, with the PS4 version staying free to download right now.

Ratchet & Clank is one of those IPs that people associate with the Playstation, and the game is about to get better. Insomniac Games announced an update that will push the title to 60fps on PS5.

Insomniac to release patch this April

Ratchet and his robot companion Clank got the reboot treatment for the PS4 last 2016. The game has been out for a hefty five years, but Sony and Insomniac still add more patches. The next patch will unlock the 60fps mode for its PS5 version.

In a tweet, the devs at Insomniac said the patch will come out this April. While there’s no specific date mentioned, it will still be something of a welcomed patch.

Most games in the recent-gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One locked into 30 fps. Much of the older tech can’t handle 60 fps, so a PS4 patch is likely impossible.

“Ratchet & Clank (2016) will be playable in 60 FPS on PS5 after a new update in April!” said Insomniac in a tweet. “As part of the Play at Home campaign, download the game for free now through 3/31.”

Ratchet and Clank part of Play At Home program

With Ratchet & Clank free until March 31, this is the best time to give the PS5 version a try. Players can get it without a PS Plus subscription too, which is a superb game.

RnC is not the only game available in Playstation’s Play at Home campaign. They’re giving away a myriad of other titles too. There are currently nine titles confirmed for the awesome giveaway from Sony.

These games include:

  • The Witness
  • Abzu
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Rez Infinite (VR optional)
  • Subnautica
  • Astro Bot Rescue Mission (VR)
  • Moss (VR)
  • Thumper (VR)
  • Paper Beast (VR)

The nine other games will be free until April 22. The Ratchet and Clank reimagining will stay up until March 31. Horizon Zero Dawn will also be a free giveaway starting April 19 and will last until May 14.

All of these games are free to download, even without a PS Plus subscription. Sony confirmed that the initiative will last for four months, with more free games in the future. June will be the last month for the entire event.

Ratchet & Clank will have a new iteration in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The game will be a PS5 exclusive and won’t come to the Playstation 4. Rift Apart will come out June 11 and will cost $70 for standard and $80 for digital deluxe.
