Real reason for ‘Among Us 2’ cancellation; What to expect next

Among Us is certainly one of the most popular games today. Despite this, the game’s developers had squashed their plans for Among Us 2. Here’s why.

It was only recently when Among Us rose to fame. But in the last few months, the game had become so successful that in August, its developer, InnerSloth, announced plans for a sequel. But it would seem that the studio has already backtracked from this plan and for good reason.

Why Among Us 2 was canceled

Any successful game would be followed by a sequel. While this was the case for Among Us at first, InnerSloth had decided that it would be better not to pursue a sequel for the time being.

In a blog post, the studio revealed that they would no longer be working on a sequel for the game.

They revealed that the main reason why they wanted a sequel was because of the game’s outdated code base. However, the popularity of the online social deduction game continues to rise.

In fact, the game had recently hit three (3) million concurrent players just over the weekend. Because of this, and how people are really enjoying Among Us, the developers decided it would be best to continue working on the game.

Instead of a sequel, InnerSloth would allot their time improving the current game.

“Seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1,” InnerSloth says in their blog post.

However, the studio did admit that doing so would be more difficult for them to do. This is because their team would have to rework parts of the game’s core code which is no easy task.

What’s next for the game

InnerSloth promised new contents and features to arrive in the game soon. Among these features, the studio promised to improve their servers for a better gaming experience.

Colorblind support features are also set to arrive. Since the game makes use of different colors, and the avatars themselves are color-coded, colorblind players may find it extremely hard to play the game. Colorblind support would be very much welcome.

The studio also promised to enhance friends and account systems as well as bring in a new stage for players to enjoy.
