Realme Watch: The new budget smartwatch worth getting?

Realme has started to move forward from creating smartphones into different devices. Its wearable, the Realme Watch, was recently launched as its first smartwatch.

The Realme Watch is one of the most affordable budget smartwatches available in the market today. It has exciting features found on top-end models while maintaining a budget price.

This smartwatch was first launched in India for around US$50 [AU$75]. Hopefully, the smartwatch will arrive in other markets soon.

Is the Realme Watch the best budget smartwatch to get today? Here are the reasons why it might be.

1. Minimalist design, bright display

It is obvious that the Realme Watch takes design cues from the Apple Watch at first glance. This watch has the same square look with rounded edges with one button on the side.

Other than the watch itself, the wrist straps are customizable. Realme is selling four different colors at the moment. It is available in black, red, blue, and green.

The display is a 1.4-inch LCD with a 320-pixel resolution. It can go up to 380 nits, which is fine for use in broad daylight. The Realme Watch uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.

There is an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance as well. Given that this device is targeted towards fitness-minded persons. Sweat and water protection is a must-have for these kinds of devices.

2. Blood oxygen saturation monitoring

If there is one reason to get this watch, then this is it. Blood oxygen saturation monitoring is usually found on more expensive smartwatches.

The sensor used to detect SpO2 is created by Goodix. It is the same company responsible for in-display scanners. This means that it is developed by a company that has a good track record in creating sensors.

Besides SpO2 monitoring, the Realme Watch has a heart rate monitor that works in real-time. There is even a feature that allows notifications whenever the heart rate is beyond normal.

3. Day to day battery life

The Realme Watch has a 160mAh battery, which is quite small if compared to smartphones. Realme claims that this smartwatch can last up to 9 days without a charge. It is a bold claim, but if it lasts a day or two then it is still a win.

4. 14 Sport Modes

Smartwatches are used to record calories burned, distance traveled, and many more. The Realme Watch has 14 sport modes available for common activities done today.

The 14 sport modes include running, cycling, table tennis, yoga, football, and a lot more. This is a great addition as some fitness devices only offer limited presets.

Although tracking is not that accurate, it is a neat feature that allows users to gauge their progress. It may serve as a guide on what workout to do next.

5. Smart control center

Realme is following the steps of Xiaomi. The company is now tapping into the Smart Home niche with its own purifiers, smart TV, and many more.

The Realme Watch may serve as a central hub to control all Realme hardware available at home. Changing channels is easier, as well as, checking out the purifier speed. Turning bedside lamps on and off is a breeze with the Realme Watch.

Realme’s selection of appliances is not as extensive as Xiaomi yet. But the integration with its smartwatch is a nice step towards future-proofing gadgets.

6. Smartphone controls

The Realme Watch connects to a smartphone through the Realme Link App. Once connected, it allows users to view health data and a lot more.

This smartwatch also allows smartphone controls such as music, camera, safe unlock, and call rejection.

The smart notifications pop up messages from Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Gmail, Twitter, TikTok, and a lot more social media applications.

Is it the best budget smartwatch of the year?

The Realme Watch has a lot of claims that need longevity to be tested such as battery life. However, it is the best $50 smartwatch available based on the specs alone.

It has top-tier features that are found on pricier options. Plus, the simple touch controls make it a useful device for everyone.

Whether it is for athletes or for daily use, the Realme Watch is bang-for-the-buck today.
