Redmi is slowly yet surely establishing a much stronger footing in its upcoming Redmi Note 10 series.
Smartphones with model names Xiaomi M2004J7AC and Xiaomi M2004JBC were recently spotted on Geekbench. As per the popular benchmarking platform, these are the Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro.
And while their spotting already sparked further interest in the forthcoming Note series, it is their accompanying SoC which brought more excitement to the table.
In their Geekbench listing, an ARM MT6875 processor was caught in the wild. The said chip is heavily rumored to be MediaTek’s upcoming mid-range super SoC, the Dimensity 820.
Touted as the improved version of the Dimensity 800, the Dimensity 820 is tipped to pack a clock rate of up to 2.60GHz. The benchmarking platform outed an octa-core processor with a base frequency of 2.00GHz.
But more should be expected from this chipset in its forthcoming listings.
The single-core scores of the Dimensity 820 processor were around the mid-640s, while its multi-core scores were listed between the 2,500s and 2,600s. These numbers place the chip higher than the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip.
The scores clinched by the ARM MT6875 weren’t also too far off against the flagship HiSilicon Kirin 980. The latter is an octa-core processor that boasts a 2-core performance cluster which reaches up to 2.6GHz.
In comparison, the Kirin 980 previous samples showed an advantage in terms of the single-core results. But these are on par with the MediaTek processor in the Redmi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro when it comes to multi-core performance.
The vanilla Redmi Note variant may also introduce more premier features in the Note series.
The mid-range smartphone is confirmed to be the first in the series to feature 5G connectivity. Also, Redmi is tipped to be finally switching from its typical LCDs to a 6.57-inch OLED display, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. It could also debut with a 20:9 aspect ratio.
The handset could also come with some “downgrades.” These include a teardrop notch and triple rear cameras.
MediaTek’s Dimensity 820 chip is scheduled to be unveiled on May 18. The Redmi Note 10 is expected to be unveiled subsequently.
