Legally Blonde actress, Reese Witherspoon, legally changed her name after her fame started to rise.
Celebrities from various industries normally use “screen names” for several reasons. But, only a few of them legally change names. These include Reese Witherspoon.
The Legally Blonde actress started her acting career when she was seven. She reportedly said that she always wanted to become an actress. She also deemed it “weird,” considering that her parents were both from the medical industry. But, regardless, they were very supportive of Reese, according to Cheat Sheet.
Reese Witherspoon and her first acting gig
Earlier this year, Reese Witherspoon revealed to her fans and followers on Instagram how she landed her first movie. But, before getting into the details, she shared the background where it all started.
As per the actress, her very first project was for a “local flower commercial.” At that time, Reese Witherspoon was just seven years old. She shared that her best friend’s grandmother had a flower shop “down the street” of their neighborhood. So, the commercial was for it, and “I loved it,” the actress said.
Upon realizing that she loves doing these kinds of projects, she reportedly asked her mother to help her. So, she took acting classes, where her mother signed her up.

Following these classes, Reese said that they saw an advertisement for a casting call. Based on the ad, she said that they were looking for a “young southern girl” for a movie. Accordingly, she “tried out” and got the lead role of Dani Trent for The Man In The Moon.
She has risen to fame after her first project
After landing her debut film at the age of 15, she starred in several films and television movies, like Wildflower. In 1993, she also had a recurring role for Return to Lonesome Dove.
But, what made her first mark in the industry was her role in the 1996 film, Fear, alongside Mark Wahlberg. Several film projects also came after including Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, and Sweet Home Alabama.
She legally changed her name
Reese’s full birth name is Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon, as per Vogue. But, she legally changed her name to “Reese Witherspoon” early on in her career.
It remains unknown, though, when this exactly happened or for what specific reasons behind. Nevertheless, it makes total sense since “Reese” was reportedly her mother’s maiden name.
Reese Witherspoon also named her son “Reese” as his middle name. She and her first husband, Ryan Phillippe, share a son, Deacon Reese Phillippe.
