It seems like Capcom has mastered the art of making games as evident by the success of the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Remakes. With another one on the way, it’s time we look back at why Capcom has been on a roll lately.
It was revealed in a recent report that Resident Evil 3 Remake was able to ship out a whopping two million copies in five days. That success only means that Capcom has truly gotten a grasp of what fans want when it comes to remakes.
Now that Resident Evil 4 Remake is also coming along, it’s time we look at the magic that Capcom puts into their remade masterpieces. Now’s the time to do it more so as the developer is remaking one of the best games in the franchise and in gaming history, so they have a lot to live up to.
Staying true to the franchise
One of the biggest criticisms for Capcom with the release of the below-par Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 was that the developer had lost its touch. Aside from that, it had officially strayed far from the survival horror genre and has opted to venture into more action-centric games.
When it came to the remakes, Capcom made a turnaround and dragged the games back into their territory. The games were completely scary and dreadful, and the fear of getting the game over screen was always there. From Raccoon’s City’s tight streets to the looming threat of Nemesis, it was survival horror at best.
Loyalty to the source material
The Resident Evil 3 Remake was loyal to its source material through and through. Aside from the new perspective and the updated graphics, Capcom really did just remade the game fans knew from their childhood. This wasn’t an entirely bad thing, though, as the hit of nostalgia made sure that fans would keep coming back for more.
It’s the same when it comes to Resident Evil 2 Remake. Fans were even surprised to see the attention to detail Capcom had when it comes to remaking the new areas for current-gen consoles.
New features
While it stayed true to the franchise, Capcom also made sure that there are new features in the game. From dodging animations to new gameplay mechanics, there was something for veteran players to expect from the games.
Of course, it also helped that the remakes were played in a completely different perspective this time around. Those new features helped keep the experience fresh for a game that’s already a few decades old.
These are just some of the reasons why Capcom’s remakes are meeting an unprecedented success. Fans are hoping dearly that Resident Evil 4 Remake will be a lot better than the original, but that’s a big task even for Capcom.
