Resident Evil Village has now shipped 4 million copies, 20 days after it has been released and outpacing the three previous titles in the franchise.
Capcom has announced that its beautifully enjoyable Resident Evil Village “shipped over 4 million units worldwide.” These include physical and digital copies of the game and on pace to outsell almost every modern Resident Evil title.
Village reaches milestone in only 20 days
Village is one of the biggest, most awesome modern callback titles of the entire franchise. Its superior gameplay, together with the game living up to the hype, allowed it to make bank. It also helps that a certain female vampire helped in its virality.
RE Village outpaced its predecessors and it was not even close. In only 20 days, it achieved 4 million units sold. To take this into perspective, Resident Evil 7 sold 3.5 million copies in nine weeks. Even then, the game shipped 9 million units to date.
The remakes were not doing shabby either. Resident Evil 2 shipped as many as four million units in one month. Resident Evil 3, on the other hand, shipped a hefty 2.7 million units in three months.
Even then, the game failed to surpass Resident Evil 6 and the hype around it. While the game received average ratings, the game shipped as many as 4.5 million on day one.
RE Village still outshipped by Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil Village had a strong showing so far, shipping over three million units over its first few days. This matched the initial shipment of the Resident Evil 2 remake. Even then, Village shipped four million copies in 20 days, where RE2 took 33 days.

The strong start of Village comes from the great international reception the game had. In its native Japan, the first-week physical sales were worse, shipping the lowest in two decades. Even then, the digital sales doubled what seemed to be bleak numbers.
The game had the second biggest physical launch for 2021 in the UK. It only came behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which was an unbelievable hit too.
“Our main ambition for this year, although there’s so much going on at the same time, is to make sure Resident Evil: Village will be the best-performing Resident Evil title, both in terms of quality as well as business,” noted Antoine Molant, EMEA marketing director for Capcom.
Resident Evil Village was a smash hit on the PC, pushing its concurrent player record on Steam. The game was a superb tribute to past titles in the franchise and it will keep breaking records.
