“Resident Evil, a new live-action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, is coming to Netflix,” as posted in a tweet.
Fresh from Scratch
The project, as it appears, is a complete rewrite of the originally rumored concept involving an outbreak in a place called Maryland. A gossip that circulated the internet back in February.
The idea of Albert Wesker having had a family will appear obscure to many. This is for the reason that this villain’s family life was never mentioned in any of the games. Aside, of course, from the details that tell a few things about his past leading to his villainy.
While we cannot be certain as to when Wesker managed to sire children, it’s likely that it all happened before Resident Evil 5. Subsequently, with that decision comes the birth of two twin daughters, Jade and Billie.
New Raccoon City
Playing through the series, we have known how the destruction of Raccoon City led to the creation of the New Raccoon City. Which, true to old Resident Evil fashion, is where yet another T-virus outbreak takes place, dragging the new protagonists in its events.
In Twitter, Netflix gave the synopsis for the planned TV series:
“When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything.”
Once panned out, the Netflix adaptation will span a total of eight episodes, which will be split into two timelines.
The first timeline will see the juvenile Weskers during the early events of the outbreak, giving audiences a view of what happens with the hapless children in the midst of a zombie outbreak.
The second timeline jumps decades in advance, which sees humanity under the brink of extinction at only 15 million total population. This timeline will also bring focus to Jade, who has to learn about herself in consideration of the future. However, this comes at the expense of losing emphasis on Billie, raising the question of what happens to him.
Production Crew
Writing the TV series’ script is Andrew Dabb, whose portfolio includes writing for Supernatural, who also claims a penchant for the franchise.
“I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story,” said Dabb.
“… and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world,” he continued.
Acting as executive producer is Bronwen Hughes, who will also be directing the first two episodes of the TV series. Constantin Film, the same company behind the Resident Evil movies and the upcoming Monster Hunter film, will act as the production company.
