Housemarque Games’ latest release, Returnal, opened on a positive note, finishing on the second spot on the UK boxed sales chart.
However, despite entering the top three, Returnal remained slightly behind previous PlayStation exclusive titles.
The game launched last week on April 30th.
‘Returnal’ falls short despite opening big
The Housemarque game has received a positive reaction, mostly from critics and players so far. And as a result of that, it also did quite well in the UK sales.
But there’s a catch here when it comes to its performance compared to past PS exclusive releases.
Returnal stocks are hard to find out in offline stores. And the majority of players these days prefer digital platforms when it comes to purchasing any new title.
And the latest game might have suffered a blow due to this aspect. As per reports, the physical sales have been lower since there are no stocks of hard copies.
And because the UK sales chart comprises only boxed figures, it ignores anything related to online stores.
But, the overall picture hints at a great start for Returnal, especially in its first week.
It succeeded in dominating other solid contenders like Mario Kart 8, FIFA 21, and COD: Black Ops Cold War.
Here are all the Top 10 best-sellers (in order) for the week ending May 1st, 2021:
1 New Pokémon Snap
2 Returnal
3 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
4 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
5 Animal Crossing New Horizons
6 FIFA 21
