Four years after Rihanna dropped her latest album, Anti, the 32-year-old star hinted she would get her much-awaited ninth LP “done.”
Rihanna has been teasing the coming of her new album, dubbed as #R9, for years. Now, will fans finally get to hear her new music?
Hints and other small details about #R9
According to Us Weekly, also known as RiRi, she has been teasing and teasing her new project, but other ventures seem to have it delayed.
The occasional actress is busy working on her own brands, Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skins.
#R9 has been in the works for the past two years, but nothing has come to fruition yet.
The Barbados beauty first confirmed she was working on a new album in a studio in June 2018. However, she had yet to give any details about it.
“You’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased.
However, when asked for an update in September last year, she remained mum about it.
“Well, obviously, I’m a confident woman, so whatever I do, it’s gon’ be confident — whether it’s the album, perfume, lingerie, makeup or fashion,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Y’all gon’ have to wait, Navy. I’m so sorry.”
Anyhow, there are a few details known about #R9. It may feature reggae and dancehall genres, inspired by her roots.
Pharrell Williams and The-Dream are also two of its producers, helping her put the new album together.
Rihanna teased working on a new album
Recently, Rihanna told The Associated Press, via ABC News, that she already held “tons of writing camps” to work on her new album.
Writings camps are an event where songwriters were put together to create original songs for an artist.
To create new music, the “Diamonds” hitmaker asked herself some questions.
“What do I feel personally?” she questioned herself. “What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art?”
There were also questions about how she wanted to interpret things and how she would reimagine it after it had been restructured.
“You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio,” she continued. “But now it’s just like, what makes me happy?”
Rihanna added she just wanted to have fun with music.
“The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day,” she explained. “And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged Rihanna when it comes to making music.
“I’m trying to figure out how I can even create visuals to that,” Rihanna teased. “That’s a challenge as well. But I love challenges, so, you know, I’m gonna get it done.”
