Risk of Rain 2 is delaying its full release to August this year.
Developer Hopoo Games notes they want to create “truly a complete game experience”, hinting they want to better polish the game for the fans in waiting. According to the roadmap for Risk of Rain 2, a 1.0 launch slated for a spring 2020 release.
The game has stayed in early access for a while, with a feedback request listed May 8th on Twitter. The dev team also denied that the cause of delay is the current pandemic. According to the team, COVID-19 does not have any effect on how they work on the game.
Player feedback became important part of RoR2 delay
Much of the delays the RoR2 will experience comes from an expansion of the full release. These expansions will include a new stage, equipment, bosses, items, and even a server browser.
“As we all know, the next update is 1.0, the last update until we leave Early Access,” Hopoo Games said on their ANNOUNCEMENT ON STEAM. “Earlier this month, I ran a quick tweet to get some feedback on what RoR2 1.0 may look like to you. From that tweet, we not only learned that there’s quite a few areas of improvement we could work on, but also that you guys are passionate about what RoR2 1.0 could be – with many fantastic suggestions and ideas of things that weren’t in the original roadmap.”
For starters, fans note how the quick match is a mess for the players. After the Artifacts update, people will leave due to bad ping or less than ideal game settings. With Quickplay serving its purpose, the ability to choose servers is can help players find good rooms.
Finding servers that share the same ping as players can make matchmaking better. Hopoo Games notes that they still don’t have host migration as an option. The team hopes that picking servers from a lobby will solve many of the game’s match issues.
Console version updates will come on time
Together with the other updates to the PC version, Risk of Rain 2 will get their June updates as promised. The additions to the PC version will have little to no impact on their version of the game.
Even then, 1.0 for consoles will move to August oo. The June update for consoles will include Artifacts 2.0, with a new stage, bosses, items, equipment, and more. The console version will then receive its next update by fall.
Risk of Rain 2 is available on Steam under Early Access and offers multiplayer roguelike capabilities to its fans.
