The famous American drama based on the characters of the Archie comic book series will soon welcome a new entrepreneur in town for Riverdale season 5. This action may have sprouted from the recent accusation of its existing cast member, Vanessa Morgan.
Morgan denotes that the series is sidelining black characters. With that, Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised to “do better” in terms of handling the show’s minority actors. He said:
“Change is happening and will continue to happen. Riverdale will get bigger, not smaller. Riverdale will be part of the movement, not outside it.”
Aside from being a former Glee star, Westbrook also stars in a recurring role on Fox series The Resident. Furthermore, she previously portrayed Magnolia on Netflix’s Insatiable and Jane The Virgin.
Westbrook will play Tabitha Tate, the ambitious granddaughter of Pop Tate. She comes to Riverdale to take over Pop’s Chock’ lit Shoppe with the motive of franchising the diner. Although the town is in a chaotic state, she believes that her entrepreneurial skill will make the difference.
Still, there’s so much to look forward to in Westbrook’s character as she faces off with the rest of the gang, including the wicked Hiram Lodge.
After a shortened season 4, Riverdale season 5 will, reportedly, feature a major time jump of seven years. The first three episodes of the fifth season will wrap up season 4’s story, and will also unveil the mystery of the sinister videotape.
In essence, Archie and the gang are going to college and have graduated, but circumstances bring them back to Riverdale. Archie attends the U.S. Naval Academy, while Betty goes off to Yale. Meanwhile, Jughead pursues the University of Iowa, and Veronica goes to Barnard College in New York.
The previous season was shut down due to the outbreak of the pandemic. However, the production resumed a few weeks ago in Vancouver.
Earlier this May, Skeet Ulrich, who plays Jughead’s father, is reported to leave the series, as well as Marisol Nichols, who plays Hermione Lodge. However, fans may see them in the first three episodes of season 5 to officially wrap up the story for season 4.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the fifth season is scheduled to arrive in January 2021 on The CW Network. As expected, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, along with others will return.
