CW has officially confirmed the storyline for Riverdale season 5. It appears that fans might witness a timeline shift in the upcoming episodes.
Since Riverdale’s first season premiere on January 2017, the show produced enthralling and perverse melodrama scenes. This may be some of the few reasons why it gained a lot of fans across the world.
Undoubtedly, Riverdale can be considered as one of the most beloved franchise in the film industry. Even though, season four is yet to be finished, fans are already dwelling to the idea of an upcoming season.
Fortunately, it appears that fans of the series will prepare themselves once again for another season of madness because CW officially announced the renewal of Riverdale for season five.
Season 5’s timeline shift
In February 2020, there have been various speculations that the producers of Riverdale are toying with the idea of ending the current season with a massive timeline shift. Reportedly, the time jump in consideration was five years.
Recently, Skeet Ulrich, who plays as Jughead’s father, confirmed the theories with a statement that says,
“I know they want to take the show in a little bit different direction next season, too, and jump five years ahead. It just seemed like the right time to move on.”
Considerably, it would make sense for Riverdale to feature a time jump like this as the idea wouldn’t be too far-fetched. Additionally, fans are already on board and have already started to theorize the many ways a five-year-jump in time could work given the plot of season four.

What Riverdale would look like in 5 years
After the departure of two parental figures, namely Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) and F.P. Jones (Skeet Ulrich), fans can expect a time jump. It’s implied that the teen characters are finally going to graduate college and jump towards their twenties.
There have been also feasible tweets assuming the future of the teens and the plot of the upcoming season. One of these states,
“They can’t follow Betty, Archie, Veronica, and Jughead to a bunch of different schools. There will be a mystery/problem that brings them all back to Riverdale after college and the show will continue from there.”
Who are the stars
Since it will be the continuation of the previous season, most of the actors from the original cast will be return to reprise their roles. Actors including KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes will be back as Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, and Veronica Lodge respectively.
On the other hand, Marisol Nichols and Skeet Ulrich will not be coming back for Riverdale’s season five. Ulrich expressed his love and fondness for all the cast of the show and said,
“Creatively, I’m just ready to do other things.”
Currently, there is no official release date and trailer of season 5.
