Robert De Niro pleads poverty to cut ex-wife's credit card limit: rumor

Robert De Niro is, allegedly, lying about his finances to cut off his ex-wife Grace Hightower’s credit card limit.

According to Globe, Robert De Niro has been gravely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. After all, the actor’s businesses haven’t been generating huge sums of income. However, his estranged wife, allegedly, thinks that this isn’t the case.

Is Robert De Niro lying about his finances?

An unnamed source claimed that Hightower thinks that her ex-husband is just using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to freeze her out of his $500 million fortune.

Hightower, allegedly, rushed to the court after De Niro slashed her credit card limit from $100,000 to $50,000. The actor also, allegedly, banned his ex-wife from an upstate New York compound where he’s staying in during the pandemic.

Unfortunately for Hightower, the court, reportedly, sided with the actor. Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper issued a temporary ruling saying that he won’t ask De Niro to increase his ex-wife’s credit card limit.

However, Cooper, reportedly, urged De Niro to give his ex-wife $75,000 so that she can find a summer home to share with their kids.

Hightower’s lawyer, Kevin McDonough said that De Niro rakes in $30 million a year. As such, his claims that he’s struggling financially couldn’t possibly be accurate.

“I’m not a believer that all of a sudden in March he needs to cut down [spousal support] by 50 percent and ban her from the house. Mr. De Niro has used the COVID pandemic to stick it to his wife financially,” McDonough said.

However, De Niro’s defense team said that the actor lost a huge sum of money from his businesses. Nobu, reportedly, lost $5 million in April and May. De Niro also had to borrow $500,000 to repay investors because he didn’t have the cash.

De Niro’s lawyer, Caroline Krauss also said that the actor is only required to pay Hightower $1 million per year if he’s earning $15 million or more. But because of the pandemic, Robert De Niro would be lucky if he could earn even half of this amount this year.

The actor allegedly doesn’t have cash

Financial expert John Lieberman told Globe that De Niro’s accounts may be accurate. He said that someone can be worth $300 million and not have cash.

However, some people close to De Niro think that he could be lying about his finances.

“Some people in his circle think it’s his way of keeping Grace’s hands off his hard-earned money,” they said.

As of late, Robert De Niro has not yet responded to the allegations.
