It looks like fans of this racing-soccer hybrid may have to wait a bit longer as the Rocket League developers are still applying finishing touches for their next update.
Last July, the Psyonix team published a press release informing the public that this summer Rocket League would become free-to-play. However, this tweet could mean that the timetable has moved.
📢Heads up: Rocket Pass 6 is ending on August 31 at 10 a.m. PDT, but Competitive Season 14 will still be live. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for more info on the next Rocket Pass and Competitive Season as we gear up for free to play! pic.twitter.com/x859LociBn

As per Express UK, a new Rocket Pass and Competitive Season are expected to be announced in the near future and will likely be added into the next update.
August has become the busiest month for the developers, as Psyonix has kept fans in the loop on what they have been working on these past few weeks.
Rocket League Tournaments get more competitive
Players will get to experience an esports feel of Rocket League as Psyonix plans to roll out Competitive Tournaments that pits you against teams of similar skill to earn rewards.
In addition, those who make it out of the first round of a Tournament are entitled to receive an in-game currency called Tournament Credits.
These credits can be redeemed to get Cups that will give players the ability to customize their cars.
Cross-platform progression reimagined
Psyonix also worked on achieving cross-platform progression for Rocket League, meaning whatever system you play in (e.g., PC, PlayStation 4, etc.), your items and achievements will be carried out to other platforms.
In the dev blog, they also explained that players would get the ability to access all their items in one place through the Shared Inventory feature.
In addition, player-to-player trading can now be conducted in Rocket League with added measures. So, for example, if you built a Blueprint with Credits on PlayStation, you cannot trade the item into other platforms aside from PlayStation.
New Challenges will make players come back
Currently, the implementation of the Rocket League reward system is integrated with the Rocket Pass, which is divided into free and premium items.
With the upcoming F2P update, the new challenge system will feature Weekly, Season, and Event Challenges. In addition, Drops will also be introduced, which can be found as Challenge rewards, and on the free track of Rocket Pass.
When opened, Drops award an item that is added to your inventory. They come in every rarity type starting with Uncommon and grant an item of the same rarity as the Drop or higher, including Black Market items.
The items received from Drops can also be traded to other players. There’s no official announcement yet on when they plan to go free-to-play, but it looks like Psyonix is making Rocket League worth the wait.
